Decorating a window, let alone a whole home, can often be a daunting task for many people. When faced with the enormous selection of materials, colors, products and styles, it may cause anxiety and confusion when trying to determine the best aesthetic and functional solution for a project. Initially, one should determine what a window treatment needs to do for the room. Usually, the basic functional requirements are one, or all, of the following: privacy, light/glare control, heat/draft insulation and sun damage protection.

Of course, there are applications where the aesthetic beauty of a window treatment is the primary consideration for the homeowner and functionality takes a back seat. Without a sun filtering layer the room would be darkened and closed off when the drapery is drawn. The first thing you want to do, in the case of urine, is to either use a shop vac to extract as much of the liquid as possible, or blot up as much as you can with clean towels. If you don’t do this then you are basically just adding whatever cleaning agent you plan on using to a puddle of urine. Extracting will get up most of the liquid, leaving you with only the bare minimum to clean up.

After you’ve extracted as much as you can you will want to use some sort of cleaning agent to begin the spot removal process. The cleaning agent can be an over the counter spot remover or you can mix your own with regular household products. Two solutions that work great for pet stains are one teaspoon of a mild detergent and two cups of warm water or one quarter cup of vinegar and 2 cups of warm water.

You want to apply to cleaning solution to the area and blot at the spot. Do not, under any circumstances, rub the stain. Another thing to keep in mind is to not over saturate the area with your cleaner. Use a little at a time and repeat the process as necessary. Using too much cleaner at one time can leave a residue behind that will eventually make a larger mess. After blotting you want to rinse the area with some plain water and then extract it either with your shop vac or with some clean dry towels.

So apply your cleaning agent. Blot. Rinse. Extract. Repeat. These steps will not only get your pet stain out of the carpet but will also prevent the stain from getting worse.

The accessories are the most important because it completes the look of any room. You can use pillows, rugs, and lamps, whatever. Keep in mind that if you already have a lot of color in the place you’re decorating, use accessories that are neutral, to create balance. And if you need a shot of color, then you have just the opposite.
